Welcome

Welcome to the homepage of the Kaufmännisches Berufskolleg Walther Rathenau (KBWR), a vocational training college for business and administration, located in Duisburg-Hamborn.
Duisburg, with almost half a million inhabitants, benefits from its geographically central location in the western part of the Ruhr Area in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is home to the world’s biggest inland port, situated on the Rhine River. This has made Duisburg a key logistics centre for Western Europe.

For centuries, Duisburg has been a location of great importance for the steel industry, as it is home to many famous companies. Furthermore, Duisburg is a prime regional centre for trade and services.

Currently, about 2,400 students are enrolled at the KBWR. Eighty-five percent of the students at KBWR are vocational part-time. This means that they are being trained at a local company in their field of interest and attend the KBWR two days a week. Vocational part-time students are taught the theoretical knowledge for their chosen job. Ten percent of the students at KBWR are full-time students who seek a higher general education certificate, as well as receiving vocational preparation. Five percent already have a professional qualification, and attend KBWR to receive advanced training in the Higher Secondary Vocational School or in the School of Business. Ninety-five teachers presently work at the Walther Rathenau Vocational Training College.

Our students can acquire all qualifications of general education, such as the Secondary School Leaving Certificate, the A-Level Exam or a comparable certificate making them eligible for university entrance.
With regard to the dual system of vocational training our logistics department is of particular importance with about 1,000 students working in transport and warehouse logistics. Moreover, we have trainees in further major areas of business and administration such as industrial business and office management, retail as well as legal and health services.

We maintain international relationships with partner schools in Finland (Loimaa), France (Rennes), the Netherlands (Rotterdam and Apeldoorn), Norway (Egersund), Poland (Turek), Spain (Alcalá de Gadaíra) and Turkey (Antalya).

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us (www.kbwr.de).

Regards from our whole team,

Alfred Schwemin
